D. Perché far periziare un dipinto?
R. E’ una delle domande più frequenti a cui rispondo: far stimare un’opera d’arte costa. Si paga il lavoro qualificato di uno specialista (il perito). Quello che si paga è la concreta possibilità di trasformare la propria opera in un investimento economico: se si può vendere un opera nel mercato è grazie alla documentazione rilasciata da un perito d’arte. Nessuno acquisterebbe mai un’opera di ingente valore senza avere un certificato di autenticità. Voi lo fareste?

Why does a painting need an expertise?
This is one of the most frequent questions ever. Estimating a work of art is costy. You pay the qualified work of a Specialist. But what you are paying for is the concrete opportunity to turn your piece of art into a profitable investment: you simply can’t sell a work in the art market without any documentation issued by an art expert. Nobody would seriously buy without a certificate of authenticity. Would you?

D. Quali sono le tempistiche per redigere una perizia?
R. Dipende. Possono bastare poche settimane, come alcuni mesi. I test di laboratorio sono a carico del cliente, ma non sempre necessari.

How long does it takes to get an expertise?
It depends. It can take a few weeks, or a few months. Laboratory tests are charged to the Owner, but are not always necessary.

D. Esiste un modo per capire se la mia opera ha valore, senza affrontare una vera perizia?
R. Certo! Si tratta di una stima, ovvero un documento firmato che indichi il valore minimo e massimo dell’opera, ma che non ha di per sé valore di autentica.

Is there a way to know the value of my painting, without asking for an expertise?
Sure! This is called an Estimate, attesting the minimum and maximum value of the artwork. But this is not an Authentication itself.

D. Il prezzo di un’opera d’arte è arbitrario?
R. Oltre alla valutazione del mercato e dei risultati d’asta, ci sono alcuni elementi determinanti per la definizione del prezzo di un’opera: iconografia, stile, provenienza, importanza storica, dimensioni, tecnica e stato di conservazione.

Is the price of art arbitrary?
In addition to auction results and art market trends, there are some elements determining the price of an artwork: iconography, style, provenance, historical importance, dimensions, technique and state of conservation.
